It was a long time coming. Staff poured over the visitor logs for months, finally narrowing down the expected arrival of another milestone guest at the Jelly Belly Visitor Center in Fairfield. As predicted, the six-millionth guest took the free public factory tour around 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2013.

Stepan Svela and his family were visiting from Germany and came to take a simple tour of the Jelly Belly factory. Little did they know, as they queued up and embarked on the tour, Jelly Belly staff had counted its six-millionth guest. The tour group was informed of the milestone, but John Jamison, vice president of retail operations, explained they wouldn’t reveal the lucky guest until the end of the tour.

“By the time people started filing down the stairs, everyone in the Visitor Center and the whole crowd waiting in line were focused on who the six-millionth guest was,” said John. “He hit the bottom of the stairs and everyone started clapping and cheering. It was a really exciting moment!”

As the tour descended the colorful Jelly Belly bean staircase, Mr. Jelly Belly himself was there to surprise Mr. Svela and his family with gifts and a memorable photo op.

The Jelly Belly Visitor Center in Fairfield sees approximately 375,000 visitors each year. The last milestone celebration occurred on February 28th, 2011 when Jelly Belly welcomed its five-millionth visitor.
